TIBET 2005SummaryMy trip to Tibet this year was in September and October, by way of Beijing. My first priority was to visit my girls, the girls I sponsor at schools in four different towns.
I went to Dege to visit the school where my family and I help 16 orphans.
In Batang I saw my student, Cimu who is in her senior year in high school. I had a wonderful visit with her and her close friend, Ciren. Cimu hopes to get accepted to Southwest Nationalities University in Chengdu next year.
Leaving Batang, I went south following the spectacular Yangtse River gorge, over the ridge and then south along the Dingqu river to Derong. From Derong, I spent two days hiking in the mountains to the village of the poor widow I have helped. She came up the trail with her yak to meet me. From Derong I went to Waka to see the mountain lady's boy who lives in a dormitory at the primary school.
Then it was on to Zhongdian. I decided to treat Jiangba to his first plane ride so we flew to Kunming just for the fun of it.
Then it was back to Litang to see Zhuoma who is now in ninth grade. She has overcome much of her shyness and we had a good visit.
I rested a few days in Kangding before going to Luding to see my new student, Dechen Zhongga.
My final stop was Beijing where I saw the Great Wall, the Forbidden City and other sights.
